About the editor

My name is Chad Catacchio, and I am the editor of the Widget Standards Wiki. In 2007, I helped develop the first ever web analytics in a widget service, called Visit Widgets. However, I'm not a developer - I'm a marketing guy. The process that I went through with my collegues when developing the Visit Widgets was very difficult, as we had to figure out for ourselves what were the best practices that we needed use for widget design, coding, distribution and serving, and everyday we wished that there was one place that we could count on to guide us - but there wasn't. Instead, we had to spend weeks piecing together all of the necessary (and limited, and unconfirmed) information on the web about widgets, as well as talking to various widget developers and platforms. The information and the widget space as a whole is just too chaotic, with everyone promoting their own set of rules (which means that there aren't any real standards). I started this project in order to bring everyone together in one objective wiki, where we can all begin to agree on and formulate hard and fast standards as a community. This is far from my full-time gig, but I will do everything that I can to keep the wiki up and running and to keep the discussion moving forward. Thank you for your support and please edit away!
